The Departure Control System (DCS) performs all functions at the airport. The DCS is loaded with the flight and passenger data a few days before the Scheduled Departure Time. The DCS service can be provided by an airline mainframe application in the host, a central installed service like the MIRIAM DCS, or a local installed DCS system.
From the DCS system the passenger is assigned a seat and the baggage is registered and Baggage Tag Lables are printed. The baggage is identified with a 10 digit number, preceded by the airline identifier. Baggage is automatically routed to the final destination of the passenger. The passenger is provided with the boarding pass containing information for the immediate flight. If the passenger is transfering on the destination airport on to an other flight, it is possible to perform the check-in for this flight as well at the initial departing airport. This is called Through check-in.
